Radial Keratotomy (RK)
in Visalia, Fresno and Tulare, California
What Is RK?
RK (Radial Keratotomy) is a surgical procedure for the treatment of mild to moderate myopia. Recently, the use of RK has declined in favor of excimer laser surgery (such as LASIK), but it is still a reliable procedure for the correction of small refractive errors. In addition, Radial Keratotomy is less expensive than laser surgery.
How To Qualify For RK
To qualify for Radial Keratotomy, you should have mild to moderate myopia (nearsightedness). You should see Dr. Sunalp for a complete examination to determine the severity of your condition and make recommendations.
The Procedure Itself
The Radial Keratotomy (RK) surgery itself involves using a very precise diamond blade to make spoke-like incisions on the surface of your cornea. How close the incisions come to the center of the cornea depends on the degree of your nearsightedness. As the incisions heal, they will cause a flattening of the cornea, which will improve your distance vision.
