in Visalia, Fresno and Tulare, California
What is a Pterygium?
A pterygium is a triangular-shaped fleshy growth that usually develops in the corner of your eye on the nasal side. If left untreated, the pterygium could grow over the cornea and affect vision. These growths are more common is men, and those who spend more time outdoors in dusty, windy conditions.
How To Qualify For Pterygium Surgery
Pterygium surgery is recommended if the pterygium is growing over the cornea, interfering with vision. In some cases, the pterygium can pull on the cornea, causing astigmatism.
Pterygium Surgery
The eye is numbed, and in some cases, a sedative may be administered to keep you calm. The pterygium is carefully removed, and a section of the conjunctiva may be transplanted over the spot to prevent regrowth.
