Nearsighted Vision Treatment
What Is The ARRAY® Multifocal IOL?
When a patient has a cataract removed, the clouded lens is replaced with an intraocular lens, or IOL. In most cases, this lens is monofocal, meaning it provides clear vision only to a certain degree. Most often, the lens will provide clear distance vision. Glasses are still required for near vision. The ARRAY® Multifocal IOL has a unique design that allows for good distance and near vision. With the ARRAY® Multifocal IOL, you can reduce or even eliminate your need for eyeglasses after cataract surgery!
How It Works
A normal intraocular lens has a flat surface, allowing for only one degree of good vision. The ARRAY® Multifocal IOL has concentric rings on its face, so that different parts of the lens allow for clear vision of objects at different distances. You can see faraway mountains, or the person standing three feet away from you, glasses-free!

How To Qualify
If you have cataract(s) (bilateral is preferable) and an otherwise healthy eye (no other diseases such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy) and wish to reduce your dependence on glasses for near and/or distance vision after surgery, you may be a good candidate for the ARRAY® Multifocal IOL. Keep in mind, however, that each patient's situation is different, and your vision after surgery may not be perfect. You may still have to wear glasses for close vision. Also, if you already have a monofocal lens in one eye, the ARRAY® lens is probably not for you. Some people are able to adjust to the differences between eyes, but some people find it difficult.
